Grand Prix Championship

Rules & Regulations

Overview

The Grand Prix Championship is a season-long competition run by Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club. Points are earned throughout the season by participating in a range of club events, league matches, and representative fixtures. The player with the highest total points at the end of the season is crowned Grand Prix Champion.

Both men and women are eligible to compete, and the leaderboard can be viewed by gender or combined. Points accumulate across all eligible events, so regular participation is key to staying at the top of the standings.

Participation

All registered members of Fitzwilliam LTC are eligible to participate in Grand Prix events. Players who sign up for an event are expected to attend on the scheduled night. If you are unable to make it, please withdraw in advance so that the organiser can plan accordingly.

Failure to show up after signing up will result in a penalty of -10 points being applied to your total for that event. This applies to Team Singles, Team Doubles, and Organised Play events. The no-show penalty does not apply to league matches, representative events, or charity leagues.

Championship Format

The Grand Prix runs across a variety of event types throughout the season. Points are earned differently depending on the format:

  • Social Events — Players earn points simply for taking part (e.g. Christmas Mixed Doubles Social).
  • Team Events — Points are awarded per match played, with a bonus for each match won. Team Singles and Team Doubles both follow this format.
  • Organised Play — A flat participation score is awarded, with an additional bonus for the overall winner of the session.
  • Super 8's Invitational — An invitation-only event awarding a higher base score for participation, with separate awards for the player with the most wins in each gender category.
  • League & Representative Matches — Points are earned for each match played and won. Players representing the club away from home receive an additional 2-point bonus per match played.
  • Charity Leagues — Follow the same structure as league matches, with the away match bonus also applying.

Rankings & Tie-Breaking

Players are ranked by their total accumulated points at any point during the season. In the event of a tie on total points, the following tie-breaking rules apply in order:

  1. The player with the greater number of events played is ranked higher.
  2. If still tied, players are listed in alphabetical order by name.
